Primitive Painters by FELT

There are at least two groups with the name Felt: The first was a British band active in the 1980s, named after Tom Verlaine uttered the word "felt" in the Television song called Venus and commanded by Lawrence (the surname Hayward was never listed in any credits on the band's albums). Lawrence and drummer Gary Ainge were the only constant members (Although Ainge does not appear on the first release, recorded only by Lawrence before forming the band) Felt is cited as one of the main influences of Belle & Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch and also as a major influence on the American group The Tyde. The band released ten albums and ten singles over a period of ten years and then broke up. During the course of its ten years of existence, the band included guitarist Maurice Deebank (who left the band in 1986), keyboardist Martin Duffy, bassist Marco Thomas and many other bassists and guitarists. During the years with Deebank, Felt cultivated an atmospheric, delicate sound built on his intricate guitar playing. After settling on the indie scene, Felt recruited Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) as the producer for their record Ignite the Seven Cannons, which remains one of the group's most popular (even though it did not impress Deebank, who left the band soon to dedicate to solo career). Guthrie's most notable influence can be heard on the single "Primitive Painters", which features backing vocals by Liz Fraser. With the arrival of Martin Duffy (Primal Scream) on keyboards (especially the electronic organ) that ended up becoming an important part of Felt's sound, dominating the band's two instrumental albums,
